For the third consecutive year, Meliá Hotels International has been named leader of the Merco Corporate Responsibility and Governance ranking, a business evaluation system that ranks the top 100 Spanish companies with regard to their corporate reputation.
Merco is the leading business monitor in Latin America and has been evaluating corporate reputation since 1999 and CSR factors for the last nine years. The research and analysis is carried out according to the ISO 20252 and ICC/ESOMAR code of conduct.
The comprehensive evaluation system involves assessment by numerous people, including experts in CSR, financial analysts, journalists and trade unions, among others. The report collates and compares their opinions on aspects such as transparency and good governance, responsibility towards employees, quality of reporting, commitment to the community and the environment or respect for consumer rights.
This result (first in the “Hospitality and Tourism” category and seventeenth in the global ranking) is a further acknowledgement of Meliá’s responsible business management model in the opinion of all the different groups involved in the survey. After three years at the top of the ranking, the company continues to lead initiatives to create a more sustainable hotel industry, further recognised by being named the “Most Sustainable Hotel Company in the World” in the SAM Sustainability Yearbook by the leading global agency in assessing companies with regard to social, environmental and corporate governance factors.
