Almost 10 years after its revitalisation began, the Rio de Janeiro port area, which became a symbol of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is being prepared for the arrival of seven new companies and two new leisure ventures: a gastronomic centre and a Ferris wheel.
Every month some 100,000 people are expected to pass through the Rio de Janeiro port area, which will have 20 full-time restaurants.
The Rio Ferris wheel, named Rio Star, is expected to be the largest in Latin America. Set to open this year, it will be 88 m high and will be installed next to the Marine Aquarium. The Mercado do Porto Carioca (Carioca Port Market), a project with a budget of €10.5m and is due to open in the second half of 2019.
Inspired by the Mercado da Ribeira (Ribeira Market), in Portugal, it will occupy a historic building located between the MAR and the Museum of Tomorrow, in the heart of Praça Mauá.
