Car rental giant grows on back of tourismfocused products

Regine Sixt, Senior Executive Vice President of Sixt International, the leading car rental company that operates in more than 100 countries, is also a member of the advisory board of the German National Tourist Board and was honored with the Woman Entrepreneur of the World Award in 2013. She talked to ITB News Berlin about this year’s show, and explained how Sixt continued to expand in 2016.

We are very pleased with the past year. The tourism sector is a key element of our success, which is reflected in our Sixt holiday vehicle rental product, that caters specifically to the needs of holiday travellers. 2016 also saw us consolidate our position in a number of markets and expand our global presence. Last year, for example, we set up our own branches in the Canary Islands, the heartland of the Spanish tourism industry.

The car rental business is increasingly competitive. How do you differentiate your offering at the moment?

Our top priorities are premium products and premium services for our customers. We are constantly working to create a travel experience that offers our customers as much comfort, c o n v e n i e n c e an d flexibility as possible. We provide what customers want: mobility tailored to their individual needs, including our car-sharing service DriveNow, our professional transfer service myDriver, or the rental car flat rate Sixt unlimited for frequent travellers.

You have expanded recently into the Middle East to Saudi Arabia. Why is that important, and where else are you looking to expand in 2017?

Our high-performance local franchise partner in Saudi Arabia enabled us to expand our contacts with partners in the area and build up an even stronger presence in an important economic region for business travellers and tourists. We are continuing to pursue our course of steady international expansion. Brazil, where Sixt services are available at the country’s 30 most important destinations, is just one example
